Virtual Library from the view of my home computer
Journal of Computational and Applied Mathematics from the view of my home computer

In this article, I described how you can get access to a database of scientific articles DirectScience Virtual Library from the home computer. Using thebrowser can be:

Requirements

Virtual Library is distributed throughout the network employee of the Institute of Computer Science. To access this network, you need an account on the serverTriglav (tryglaw.ii.uni.wroc.pl). Most employees have individual accounts set up there. In the absence of having such an account, simply write a letter to the administrator ~ Rashad / Rashad.

Recipe == == A recipe for gaining access to the Library consists of two steps # ssh - tunnel and # Proxy.

SSH - Tunnel

The first step is to do so. Sshtunnelbetween the home computer, a server Triglav. Just log into the server with the appropriate parameters Triglav. I described how to do both under Linux and Windows. First, select a number of free port on your computer. Ideally, this number was quite large but less than 65000th In general, any number would be good. In case of problems, please change the number to another. I chose2080.

Linux

Under Linux, simply type the command in the console:   ssh-L <nr_portu> tryglaw.ii.uni.wroc.pl: vls1.icm.edu.pl: 80-l <username> nr_portuwhereis the number of the selected port, and username'is the name of the user account on the server Triglav. For example, a userUWr, who chose the port2080, it should run   ssh-L2080 tryglaw.ii.uni.wroc.pl: vls1.icm.edu.pl: 80-l UWr

==== ==== Windows In Windows, you need a little more work hard, but fortunately only once. In Windows, you must have a program that allows you to log onto a remote server. For this purpose, well suited to a free program ~ sgtatham / putty / putty. The program can be downloaded for example here: ~ sgtatham/putty/latest/x86/putty.exe. I suggest you put a shortcut on the desktop to that program (I will not explain how to do it.)

In order to make a SSH tunnel, you must follow these instructions:

  1. Run putty.exe. If you are making this statement the first time, you should see the following window:
    Running the program putty
then Go to Step 2 If you've done steps 2-5 on your PC, you should skip to step 6
  2. On the left is the sectionCategory. Select itConnection-> SSH-> Tunnelslike the figure below
    ...
  3. In theSource portport number of the selected type - for me it is2080andDestinationbox, type vls1.icm.edu.pl: 80. Select theLocalandAuto, and then press theAdd.
    ...
  4. You should see more or less the result:
    ...
  5. Back in the sectionCategory toSessionand type in the box,Host name (or IP address)addresstryglaw.ii.uni.wroc.pl, in Portfield- the number of22and select SSH. Then, in the Savedsessionfor example, typeVirtual Library (see figure below) and pressSave.
    ...
  6. You should see something that box:
    Putty login.gif
Double click onVirtual Library', a window opens asking you to log on to the server Światowit. Just enter'your username (eg, Wroclaw University), and then typepassword.
    Putty user logging.gif

=== === PROXY After the tunnel, sshŚwiatowit to the server. We have already half the work. The second step is to configure your browser to use a proxy server.

Note: The following instructions make such changes to your internet browser so that it benefited from connections through a proxy server. These settings are only for viewing the Virtual Library. There will be at this time use the other websites in the browser. Of course, these settings can be changed again and restore their own that have had prior to the following instructions. My advice: To avoid having each time to switch to thereal timeonline, and once in the Virtual Library, I strongly recommend installing the new browser - one that has so far not used, and it was allocated only the use of the Virtual Library. In this way, use one browser (eg Internet Explorer) to browse the Internet, and other browsers (eg Firefox) to view the Virtual Library. Every day I use the browser [Firefox http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/] So I chose a different browser to the Virtual Library - browser [Opera http://www.opera.com/].

==== ==== Firefox Przelgądarkę example can be downloaded from here [1] and it is accessible to both Linux and Windows. I assume that you have chosen browser Firefox to view the Virtual Library. I will describe how to configure it correctly. The description is given in several steps that must be observed. On the right side I put the drawing with the selected numbers (red), the following steps to provision.

Note: After you complete the following instructions, the browser will access only to the parties Virtual Library, that will not work other websites. To use Firefox for everyday browsing, should be at the end of the Virtual Library to restore the original settings.

Setting up a proxy in Firefox
  1. Open Firefox
  2. Enter thePrefencje(look in the main program, such asTools -> Options)
  3. SelectAdvancedsettings
  4. Select theNetwork
  5. In the sectioncallbuttonSettings.
Note: remember what you had previously selected to be able to later restore the original settings.
  6. Select theManual Proxy Configuration.
  7. In the HTTP proxies'typelocalhost andPortfield, type the number of the selected port - in my2080
  8. Select theUse this proxy for all protocols
  9. That's all. Accept the settings and you can now view the contents of the Virtual Library. To this end, please visit http://vls.icm.edu.pl

Restore the original takes place in the same way, except that in point. 6 choose the original settings - for me these are theSettingssystem (Linux) or'System Settings (Windows).

==== ==== Internet Explorer That I assume you have Chosen Internet Explorer to view the Virtual Library. I will describe how to configure it correctly. The description is given in Several Steps That Must Be Observed. On the right side I put the image of aproxysettings in Internet Explorer

Note: If you follow These instructions in your browser, you will have access only to the Virtual Library, That will not work Than vls.icm.edu.pl other websites, what is worse in the whole Windows Internet Will Be Limited Only the parties to the Virtual Library; This is unfortunately a flaw in Internet Explorer, unfortunately, it is integrated with the whole system). If you use Windows every day :-), then you must restore the original settings.

Setting up a proxy server in Internet Explorer
  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Enter theInternet Options(look in the main program, it is mostlyToolsmenu)
  3. Select theconnections
  4. Press the button LAN Settings.
Note: remember what you had Previously selected to be Able to later restore the original settings.
  5. As part of theproxyselectUse a proxy server for your LAN
  6. In theAddresstypelocalhostandPortfield, type the number of the selected port - in my2080
  7. Press theAdvancedand make sure it is markedUse this proxy server for all protocols
  8. That's all. Accept the settings and you can now view the contents of the Virtual Library. To this end, please visit http://vls.icm.edu.pl

Restore the original takes place in the same way, Except That in point. 5 is characterized byUse a proxy server for your LANor restoring the Settings That Were Previously.
